    Hello everyone, I just joined Weight Watchers (long overdue) and I'm looking for some ideas for tasty mains that are low fat better yet that are family friendly so I don't have to do two lots of meals. Weight Watchers have some really good recipes but this is the site where I normally surf for recipes so naturally I'm back here looking for ideas. Any help would be very much appreciated...........cheers chris

    Newbie "Fry Cook" Poster
    Hello, I am new to recipe Zaar and just recently found that I am dealing with some heart disease so am looking for any and all recipes that are low in fat/cholesterol to help my new battle. This site looks like a great place to start. Thanks already for some of the ideas! I already made the dijon chicken and my husband and I loved it. icon_smile.gif

    Semi-Experienced "Sous Chef" Poster
    I have recently been into baking with almond flour. I heard and read that almond helps lower cholesterol and raise the good one. Also, eat plenty of fruits and veggies. My husband had slightly elevated cholesterol. I started making him lunches for work . . . including tons of fruits and veggies. After about 4 months,his bad cholesterol went down and the good one up! (I didnt even know that there was a good cholesterol, LOL!)

    What a neat idea, do you have a favorite recipe for almond flour? I use flaxseed meal in some of my baking it's good for lowering cholesterol and it adds a nutty flavor to the product. I posted this recipe for banana bread from the flax seed for hope website, we really like it including the kids ages 9 to 16. Flax Banana Bread
    If you get a chance share some of your favorite recipes for almond flour - I can't wait.

    One of my favorites is something I tried just a couple of weeks ago. If you look at LOW-FAT CHOCOLATE MUFFINS, which is recipe # 259822. I used 1 cup of almond flour and just half cup of whole wheat flour. I kept everything the same except I increased the baking powder to 2 1/2 teaspoon and increased the baking soda to 1 1/2 teaspoon. I also added two tablespoon of applesauce for added moisture. OMG they were to die for! You wouldnt believe that there are no eggs and no oil in it! Next time I think I will try using the full 1 1/2 cup almond flour and not add any of the whole wheat flour. Almond flour is really easy to use in almost any recipe. Just substitute the flour in the recipe for almond flour. Just be sure to add a little more leavening agents than what the recipe calls for as the almond flour is a little heavier than regular flour. Next time I am going to try making banana muffins with it!

    I am really excited. It is just sometimes hard to know what is good for you and what is not when eating out, no matter what country you're in! Restaurants can take an apple and somehow make it bad for you, ha ha.

    I wish I could eat all grilled fish because that is tasty and low calorie, but pregnant women can only eat so much per week (6 ounces) and only certain kinds of fish that are low in mercury.

    Thanks again. I will try not to overdo it with food. I run long distances here...12 miles or so at least once a week, plus my daily runs, so my activity level will decrease. I hope to get a couple of long runs in though!
