The Vivacious Violets are alive and roaming in the hills of Switzerland during our whirlwind tour. Our group is relaxing in the amazing setting of “Sweet Nature Getaway” located on the shores of Lake Walensee (Lake Walenstadt) in the Walensee Mountains.

This area is in the north eastern part of Switzerland. The lake is not the largest in Switzerland but it is the deepest. There is even a waterfall at the lake which is gorgeous to view in person!

The view is spectacular and truly is Swiss simplicity at its best.
Here is the home where we are staying – windows all around!

And here is our view (you’ll see the home tucked into the hill on the right.

We arrived late last night and so woke up this morning ready to take in all the sights and sounds of the Swiss culture but first we need to start our day with breakfast – it is the most important meal of the day!
Our Team Captain & Cookbook magpie diner and Cookbook Guru Dreamer in Ontario planned and treated the rest of the team and our guests “Count Dracula and His Hot Bites” to a fabulous array of breakfast treats.

Dreamgoddess and Kim127 immediately plunked their fresh bread cubes into Three Cheese Egg Fondue, #455204 and it did not take long before all of us were taking our tongs and dipping into this dish too. Our second breakfast dish, even though not a traditional Swiss fondue, - Cheese Fondue Hash Browns #396598l, was a delicious accompaniment and was really enjoyed by Ck2plz and gailanng.

HokiesLady needed a large mug of coffee to wake up and so after enjoying her large mug while looking out her bedroom window…

…she was ready to get down to the business of mapping out our day. We knew that Dreamer could not do that as she had already gotten lost trying to find her way from the kitchen to the back deck – all the windows threw her off as she could not tell which side of the house was what! icon_lol.gif

Chef Jean and our new friend Mikekey were reading about the geological data of the region so we could plan our hike for the morning.

The landscape of the Walensee region is most impressive. Together with nearby Glarnerland, the region provides an object lesson on the history of the earth. The decades-long controversy surrounding the Glarus Overthrust provided important insights into the formation of the Alps.
The prominent peaks of the Churfirsten mountains rise proudly over the Walensee. The valley was hollowed out by the powerful Rhine glacier. While the roads run along the southern shore of the lake, the opposite side, at the foot of the Churfirsten mountains, is not accessible by road. Uniquely in Switzerland, the village of Quinten is only accessible by boat or on foot.
Thanks to the mild climate, fig trees grow in Quinten and mixed chestnut and lime forests around the Walensee.

A planner and organizer as she is Mia in Germany decided on our hiking route. The time listed on the map was 4 hours and 10 minutes. Boy it is a good thing we had a hearty breakfast. It is a medium grade hiking trail with a height difference of 420 meters. Coasty did not even want to figure out how many feet that is as it is still too early in the morning and all she could think about was the waterline and coastal shores.

So off we went with our hiking boots strapped tightly, our water bottles dangling and our sun hats on to protect us from the sun as we climbed. We loved the natural vegetation and found the trail around the lake was actually a shortcut so we talked Mia into letting us take that instead which would cut our hike down to just under 3 hours! Coasty decided to chat it up with the locals along the way and found the secret was to get to the boat ramp – it provides a complete shortcut directly ACROSS the lake so we would not have to walk as far.

Linky saw this beautiful vineyard and ran up to the winery and purchased some white wine.

She agreed to ply Mia with some of this wine that was the color of her water so she would never suspect what was happening. Mia became a HAPPY hiker so Scarlett516 walked her right onto the boat and leisurely motored across the lake taking in all the views while resting on the boat.

Upon our return, smellyvegetarian and Chef Jean happily agreed to make us all a late lunch. We sampled:
Swiss Fondue Bread, #455180 since we needed some carbs to replace those we burned during our hike. Vegetable Fondue - Vegan, #456773 as a vegan entrée which is important to a few of our teammates and our guests, and for a light dessert we sampled Chocolate Fondue With Fruit and Grilled Pound Cake #458001 using fresh fruits and pound cake as our dipping tools.

Our team has become a wonderful group of friends along this whirlwind tour called ZWT7. We love to tease each other, have found that we share a love of dishware with some of us actually having similar pieces, encourage one another and work together so that all have a part in this adventure and know that we will continue our friendships long after the tour has ended. We know that our friendship with Count Dracula and His Hot Bites team will be forever etched in our memories as we shared part of our journey with them too.

Sure does! Although, thinking of it, after a glass or three I'm not sure I'd mind anything at all - hike or ride, what the heck icon_lol.gif
