Cups...up or down?

Hi all,
Just moved into a new home. My boyfriend and I differ upon which way the cups and glasses should be placed in the cupboard. I like them to be up, he wants them down. I know this sounds trivial, but would like to know what you all think.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to all!

Down!
Think of those glasses you only use once or twice a month...Dust collectors! That's my reasoning, at least.

My preference is up, but I think the person who washes them is the one who should decide.

I like down, that way not dust will collect in them

I'm late to this party, but it's always been DOWN for me ~ although I do display some stemmed crystal UP in my china cabinet!

I always place up, because I don't like the smell they get placed down. I have this strange habit of smelling a cup or glass before I place liquid in them. I find if I put them down, they pick up a strange odor. I am not sure if its the contact paper I use or what. And yes my cabinets shelves are clean! I just always place up for that reason alone, the smell factor. Oh yeah and believe me, your kids are watching! My kids do the same thing! Smell their cups or glasses before using! lol

Oh yeah, that's why I do it, and it's not a problem with cleanliness! I've even read articles that state you should always place them up so they don't smell.
So they get a little dusty? That washes right off. Bad smells are harder to deal with.

I believe I would reline my cabinet shelves if my glasses smelled after being stored upside down ~ my glasses can stay down for months ~ even years ~ and don't smell.

I used to store them down, but when we moved into our new house the cleanliness of the cupboards was fairly questionable and have stored them up ever since...even after we renovated the kitchen and put in new cupboards! I think it's just a matter of habit over anything else
I hate coming up with handles :)

I used to store them up until I moved into an apartment with cockroaches, then I started storing them down. I still do, out of habit. (No cockroaches in my house.)

Thanks all for the input. It seems like it is about 50/50! LOL And I like the idea of whoever does the dishes gets to decide!

Always up for the same reasons the other "up posters" said. When I put clean glasses away I put the freshly washed ones in the back and bring the ones in the back up front. That way my clean glasses never get dusty. This is a big deal because otherwise when you need glasses from the back and find they are dusty you need to rinse them off and dry them.
But anyway, this reminds me of the age old toilet paper over or under debate, lol. Either way works.

Down for glasses, over for tp
My glasses & mugs never smell, no shelf liner, just painted cupboard shelves.
