Question on slow cooker's "auto" setting

Question:

I have an HD Designs (with corningware insert) electric slow cooker about 10 years old and have lost the manual. I don't know what the "Auto" setting does: The settings are low, high and auto. I've tried looking online but I don't think they make these anymore. Any ideas?

I'm sorry but I've not been able to find any information on this slow cooker. I can only guess that the auto function turned the machine to warm after the cooking time you set, but that's a guess.

Thanks RAG. No, it's a totally manual machine so it doesn't have a time function. I was wondering if it would cook hot first then cool. And if that's what it is, if someone can tell me how to use that setting.

My newer crock has this setting too - I will see if I can find the manual, but I think that it moves it to warm after some time, I just don't remember what that time is or how it determines it. I remember reading the description in the manual and saying to myself I don't think I will use this.

I have a 6Qt. Hamilton Beech Slow Cooker with that setting. My manual says it will go to High, then turns down to Low automatically. Where a recipe takes 4 hrs on High or 8 hrs on Low, the Auto setting will cook in 6 hrs.

Thanks everyone! I just ordered a new programable slow cooker because I want more control. I'm excited to try the new one. The old one will be great for chili and keeping things warm at parties, plus the insert is good in the oven.
