Hi! I'm all German myself -- but from Brooklyn, NY. (My relatives are named Honecker, Reichardt, Kluepfel, etc.) My exposure to German cuisine was initially through my two grandmothers -- I especially remember sauerbraten and dumplings for special occasions.
So I'm no expert, but I've been exploring and collecting German recipes the past couple of years.
I have to recommend a particular recipe to you. I got it from a German friend of mine a couple of years ago. It's not complicated, but it does take a little effort -- a little like making homemade pasta, if you've ever done that. But it's fun to make, and guaranteed... everyone LOVES it. It's a specialty from southern Germany.
Allgäuer Cheese Spaetzle (Allgäuer Kässpatzen)
And this is a good recipe for sauerbraten:
Lüchow’s Sauerbraten
Welcome to Recipezaar, by the way. I'm kind of new here myself. It's a great community -- one of my favorite places to hang out.
