British Supermarket Deals

Have been a bit busy setting-up my new business venture so have really not had much time to think about this forum but am having a quiet week at my Mum's (dog sitting) and was shocked at the difference in prices from my local supermarket to what we have to pay here!

I shop in Asda as I live in Swindon and also have the luxury of Sainsburys, Tesco, Morrisons and Somerfields, and we hava Lidl, Aldi and Iceland all within a 3 mile radius!!

My Mum, on the other hand lives in Thatcham, Berkshire and has Co-op and Waitrose!

I went to the Co-op yesterday and was shocked at the prices, and ended up buying just the basics which cost at least a third more than Asda!

Waitrose do a price match, but I'm guessing with Co-op so nothing is reasonably priced!

Now I know why every time Mother visits we end up doing a grocery shop!

I have just committed the worst sin of all and done a shop on-line!

When I get home on Saturday I will try to have a look at some of the offers in the press and post a few if anyone is interested and also there are some good deals to be had by shopping on-line!!!!!!

I did an online shop once. I usually like to visit the shops myself though and pick out the best quality in my produce. I think sometimes when they pick it for you, they don't give you the freshest with the latest sell by date.

Hi there Franti....no problem with shopping on line. I'm a bit like Marie, though and like to pick the fresh things myself, with the longest sell by on them as I'm on my own. But I do occasionally get myself organised and order online, but mostly the heavy non perishable stuff. So around pay day I'll order cat food, cleaning products toilet rolls, and tins and cans of anything for the storecupboard, enough to last the month.
I do like to wander up and down the aisles though, andfind things that I haven't tried before.

I have to do a major shop when I get home on Saturday which will inevitably mean cash & carry(Bookers) as my new kitchen is open at my local club and I have sole charge!
I have left my inherited staff to fend for themselves this week so heaven only knows what I am going back to!
My partner is very good but he would let them carry on and tell tales later whereas I would rather he rang me and let me deal with the problems at the time! Anyway, there may not be any problems!!!!!!

I will try to compile a list of offers and pass them on as I do a lot of my shopping in the main supermarkets not always finding cash & carry to be the cheapest option!

Hi everyone,
I'm finally taking time out to catch up on my emails etc after getting home late afternoon on Saturday. I wish I'd stayed at my Mums!
My new kitchen was a tip, nothing was in the place I'd left it and the inherited staff had revolted(or were they just revolting!)
They are both senior citizens and won't look for anything that isn't right under their noses so I came back to a note in my till telling me they had bought sliced rolls for the burgers, loads of chips and extra cheese ( in case we run out)! I have a freezer full of chips and I bought 10 packs of burger buns so they wouldn't run out! As for the cheese, if they'd moved the cheese slices they would have found it!!
I am at my wits end as I don't want to have to let them go 'cos they rely on their bit of money! Nightmare!!
Still, at least my own kitchen was nice and tidy which was a shock and my tomato plants had been watered, even if my partner did forget to go shopping! Good job I shopped on-line!

I used to order from Waitrose (Ocado) most of the time I lived in London. I had no car there and it was really heavy to carry the food home, and I was surprised at how good the quality usually was. I did also make a weekly stop at the market for my special Asian ingredients at a local Asian Grocer, and would also often pick out some fresh produce as well. Otherwise, the majority of my shopping was done online. One advantage was keeping costs down actually - as you can clearly see your bill as you add items to your "cart" online.

That is one big advantage with having a running total to keep you on track. Also, it is easier not to impulse buy, again keeping you to a budget! And I thought I was just being lazy!

Hi there....no one posting here lately, so I thought I would tell you about the latest thing that caught my eye in the Lidl leaflet that came with the Sunday paper. Haven't got it in front of me, but the thing I wanted to telll you about was the bakeware. They had all sorts of muffin tins, loaf tins, roasting dishes for 3.99 each. I'm popping down there on my way home this evening and see if I can get a springform cake tin, which I wanted, but was too stingy to pay regular prices for! I'll let you know what they're like.]

From 12th they have Christmas plants...and I noticed some lovely little pots with hyacinth bulbs in them which were 3 for £10....nice little presents...so I'll be down there tomorrow as well!

My mistake, I think the cookware isn't there till today either....they didn't have any yesterday, and when I looked again at the leaflet, I think all the offers were starting on 12th but it only said it on the page where the plants were! That'll teach me! I'll be there again this evening!
