If I'd scrolled down the page I'd have posted the following here instead of Africa:

icon_biggrin.gif One of the exotic spices I received in the Spice Swap is Qalat Daqqa which is also called Tunisian Five Spice.

Now I need a recipe to try it out.

Anyone with a recipe or ideas?

    Thank you!

    and second post:

BTW, the other exotic spice mix I received is Ras El Hanout. I did find a few recipes which call for that mixture.

The Spice Swap has certainly opened my eyes to looking in a totally different direction: Africa! icon_biggrin.gif Or perhaps I should say, North Africa!!!

Both mixtures contain whole spices which gives me the excuse for buying a spice grinder.

Thank you chefFiFi but I'm not looking for the spice mixture, I'm looking for recipes which use the mixture. icon_biggrin.gif

Hellooo Housedragon! I did some looking through the North African recipes & found many that call for Ras El Hanout:

    Ras El Hanout Lamb
Stir Fried Carrots With Mango and Ginger
Bus Station Kefta With Egg and Tomato
    Algerian Fish Soup
Fragrant Moroccan Beef, Date, Honey & Prune Tagine-Crock Pot

I looked up 5 spice powder & it includes pepper, cloves, melegueta(grains of paradise), nutmeg & cinamon. There is a recipe here for Arabic 7 Spice which includes pepper, paprika, cumin, coriander, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, & cardamom. I found these recipes calling for 7 spice powder:

    Egyptian Style Spinach (Sabanek)
Egyptian Style Stuffed Cabbage Leaves (Mashy Crump)

Hope this helps! Perhaps you'd like to play NA*ME Tag?

Thank you Elmotoo. I've added these to my stash.

icon_lol.gif BTW, I keep sniffing the two spice mixtures. They smell so wonderfully exotic!
