Well I finally got my Eid decorating done. I like to decorate to make it really seem festive. We have decided to have decided to invite the family over for a dinner on Eid. I will be busy grocery shopping. What are you plans?

No Plans... icon_sad.gif . My husband will be leaving tomorrow to visit his family, me and our son will stay home in Germany. I will take the time to bake some (Eid-)Cookies with my son, tell him about the celebrations and in the evening we will have some lamb dish... No idea yet what that will be! We will have a nice table, flowers...A relaxed evening! (Well, I am not very sad that I do not have to cook weird things like stuffed lamb stomach, liver, head and things like that icon_wink.gif . I will leave that to my MIL this year )

So funny!! icon_lol.gif I was talking to my sister-in-law yesterday and she was trying to explain what we were eating tomorrow and what I got from her is just what you wrote - stuffed stomach!! icon_razz.gif

She is also going to have some sort of chicken and fries. She said it is the tradition to have fries on the first day and couscous on the second day. Maybe this is an Algerian tradition.

I just put the last two trays of cookies in the oven. They are called Kipfels and the recipe came from my mother's family. Everyone loves them and they taste like they could be Algerian. They are crescent shaped and stuffed with nuts. They are time consuming and I might have skipped them altogether this year but my brother and sister-in-law specially requested them and they are hosting the meal so It is the least I can do.

    Enjoy your holiday!!

    Eid Mubarak,

My dear MIL is coming from overseas Sunday she will be here and i'm going to attempt kibbe tomorrow. I haven't told anyone so if i screw it up noone will ever know i tried. lol I have gotten most of my recipes of the internet with about a 75% success rate. I think the worst recipes online are for Mamoul. I made two different ones i found online and i think some kids in Texas are still using my cookies as hockey pucks. I never had worse recipes in my life. So i am looking forward to having someone around who has cooked arabic food all their life to help me out this Eid. I also want to make a few of my family favorites i am missing at this time of year. Especially Pumpkin bread, Candy cane cookies and russian teacakes. I love baking and I love to have Eid as a reason for the family to get together. I wish all of you a Happy Eid and Happy Cooking!

    Eid Sayeed,

Mamoul are tricky. The only mamoul I like are my MIL. She makes them from flour not smeed. The come out tasting like a fig newton almost.
Alot of people make them, but to make them edible that is the true quest. icon_lol.gif
