I've gotten my dad a 2.5qt crockpot (Rival) for Christmas. He's a widower, and lives alone. I am scaling down the typical crockpot recipe (5-6 qts) and am struggling with the time. If a 6 quart recipe in a 6 qt crock cooks for 8-10 hours, will 1/3 of it in a little crock still take 8-10 hours? or will it be done sooner? The cookbook Rival packs with the pot is scaled for 6 qt. crocks

I to have come to love my two quart crockpot. I generally start checking when about half the normal time has elapsed. As long as it is at least half full you should be able to cook it for as long as you need too. Julie

Hello,
I am repeating a message here I already posted to Kiko, but I think you will want to know this too. Better Homes and Gardens has a new cookbook out called "Slow Cooker Favorites Made Healthy." In it is a chapter called "1-1/2 Quart Recipes," recipes for soups, entrees and, of course, dips to make in the small crock. I think this is great as I have a 2-quart crockpot, too, and I am trying out these recipes as I can for my DH and myself. You might be able to find this in your local library as it will give you ideas for timing, etc. Hope this helps.

Okay, I found my printout. It says "Rival Crockette Recipes." There's a site I printed this from, but can't find now. For a 1 to 1-1/2 qt. Crockette, here are some cooking times I've gleaned:
1# pot roast -- 10-12 hours
2 pork chops -- 6-8 hours
2-4 chicken pieces w/veggies -- 7-10 hours
sloppy joes -- 8-10 hours
casserole-type dishes -- 8-12 hours
mac/cheese -- 4-6 hours
beef stew/chili/soup -- 10-18 hours
1 roast cornish hen -- 8-10 hours
stuffed peppers 8-12 hours
Hope this helps. I need to find out where I got this, then post some of these recipes.

I am wondering if these cooking times are for low or high. I tried the chicken and it was done in 3 hours.

I was just wondering the same thing, and if that is for the old ones that cook slower. Maybe the hosts need to update this?
