Thank you Carla. Actually I have used recipezaar for a while I had just never signed up as a member. I am happy to finally do so now.
I live in Alphen aan den Rijn. My husband and I will probably be in Holland for 6 years, then we will move back to the U.S.
I look forward to participating in this forum and chatting with other Foodies. It is always fun to share information and recipes.
Hi Expat. I'm glad you signed up and started posting with us!
Hello Pan Nan, Thank you ever so much for the welcoming. In true southern style! I look forward to chatting with you and hope to share some recipes as well.
I noticed your post about the komijn kaas. I do not particularly care for that one, however they have a lovely kaas of italian herbs in a aged gouda kaas in the little cheese shop here in Alphen. From what I am told they put herbs, (they were not sure which ones) dried tomatoes and olives in little flecks in the kaas. It is yummy, and the one cheese all my friends and family that come to visit always take a big wedge with them home. It is lovely to serve with a nice red or white wine. I am really liking trying all the different dutch cheeses. Sadly, even with all the bicycling the effect on the hips is showing! lol. Any other kaas you can recommend I try?
Another thing I have found out recently, is you can no longer ship food items to the U.S. The goverment no longer allows this unless you are a known shipper. So sadly I can no longer send cheese, stroopwafels or coffee to my family in the US.
However you can bring it back thru customs when you fly, as long as it is vacume sealed and you declare it. That is not a problem. If you fail to declare it and the little custom's dog find your bag they are now handing out hefty fines. Just an FYI.
