Your favorite Bread for...

Sandwiches?
Along side meals?
Toast?
Any other reason?
I'm looking to branch out from what I'm making now, and would like to find some 'regulars' to bake up on a weekly basis. Thank you for your help on this!

The bread recipes I use on a regular basis can be found here.
The Country White Bread, Whole Wheat French Bread and Our Favorite Wheat Bread are the ones I've been making for several years. Donna's Sourdough bread listed there is a new favorite.

Thanks for the ideas. My family eats mostly white bread, but I just got some whole wheat flour yesterday and want to expand their diet a bit.
Those all look great (if not a bit complicated )! Someday soon I picture myself confident (and fully stocked) enough to whip out some amazingly complex loafs like that.

Here are my three standard breads I make on a regular basis. The white bread is made weekly for toast and sandwiches and can be converted to wheat bread by substituting wheat flour for part of the white flour.

I basically use a traditional white bread recipe. When I want to change it up a bit, I will throw in some herbs like, rosemary, thyme, basil and garlic. Then when it's risen and ready to bake, I'll glaze it with and egg wash and sprinkle Kosher salt on top.
I will also chop a red onion up, saute' it until tender, then add it to the recipe, along with some garlic. You will probably need to add flour during the kneading process, as the onions add moisture and the dough will be a bit sticky. Just have to play with it and get a feel of it. Add the flour a little at time though and work it in. It makes a wonderful onion bread that goes wonderful along side any meal.

Sounds fabulous! When do you add the herbs? I wish my family liked onions. I may just have to make some of it for myself!

put the herbs in at the beginning. I use dried herbs. Crush them before putting them in. That will release the oils that are in them. You wouldn't believe the aroma in the kitchen when this is baking.
1/2 tsp rosemary
1/4 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp basil
2 cloves minced garlic.
for a 1.5lb loaf.
as far as the onion bread goes. The onion flavour is subtle. Although you can make it as oniony as you want. Start out with, maybe, just a half a medium sized onion. Try it

My favorite breads are:
egg twist (essentially a challah made into a loaf)
rye bread with caraway seeds
pumpernickel bread
cinnamon raisin (for French toast and the odd piece of toast)
I have no recipes since I am only trying to make my first loaf right now. But I know where they are in the grocery store.
