Hi Erin! I made the "Toll House choc chip cookies".
I loved the batter too, really chewy and nice, something different and I loved the colour too.
    Now some doubts:
    1. In the ingredients u mentioned baking soda, but in the recipe, u said abt baking powder. I used both. I really couldn't decide which 1 to use. So, I used 1/2 tsp. baking soda and 1 tsp. baking powder.
    Was this ok??

    2. I baked these on conv. mode first at 180 deg C for 4 mins., then, at 200 deg C for 4 mins, then, at 180 deg C for 10 mins., then for 10 mins at 200 deg C. When they were still not done, I was so furious, I baked them at 250 deg C, I was going mad:), for 8 mins I think.
Ultimately, I even baked them at 230Deg C , but finally
what I got is something round, FLAT, browned and something I had to bite on to be able to eat, not something chewy.
Tell me, what have I made? Haha, I dunno why I have bad luck in cookies,
Tell me, supoose If I wud stick to 200 deg C, for how much longer could I bake if these cookies weren't ready in 10 mins. as per your recipe.

Tell me, finally when uhave these, when u eat them , how exactly are they? Are they chewy, or d u have to bite on them?

    Where am I going wrong?

    Thanks!

I forgot to tell you that I made only 6 cookies tonight, its 2:40am here n I'm really sleepy, so, going to sleep now. I've kept the remaining batter of the cookies in the fridge.
    Any harm in doing so?
Let me know how to proceed with the rest of the dough , really tired right now..will finish it correctly tomorrow, with urhelp:)

It should have been baking powder, not soda. Sorry about that, I put it in pretty late.

I have no idea what is going wrong. I'm not sure about temp cenversions, so I don't know what the deal is with that. I really don't know! This is the recipe that is on the bag of chocolate chips. I've made them hundreds of times. Maybe you are just baking them too long. I take mine out when they don't quite look done, still a little soft and let them sit on the pan for a few minutes. This keeps them chewy.

I have never made anything in a convection oven, so that too is a hurdle here. Did you check out that website? She seemed to have some good tips for baking in a convection oven.

Okay, I checked the conversion for temp. If I bake on 375F, you should be at 190.56C, if you started at 180, it wasn't hot enough to get it going, it would have taken longer at that temp. Fluctuating the temp probably caused some of the problem and putting your temp at 230C (462F) is way tooo high.
