Kitchen Dictionary: baba

Pronounced: BAH-bah

A rich, light raisin/currant-studded yeast cake that is soaked in rum or kirsh. Classic baba is baked in a tall mold (cylindrical), but other shapes are also used. When baked in a large ring mold, it's called savarin.
