Fabulous Honey White Bread (Bread Machine)

"This recipe makes a loaf of bread that is high rising, soft textured, slices well, and keeps well too. All the qualities we get in store bought bread but, warm and fresh out of the bread machine, at a fraction of the cost too. I make this recipe 3 to 4 times a week. You will love this!!!"

Questions & Replies

  1. Has anyone made this without a bread machine? How did it turn out? How much yeast?

  3. I've got a question. If I use this recipe and follow it exactly, do I have to do anything special with the bread machine settings? i.e., put it on dough setting? Or can I just put everything in the machine and follow the instructions and let it do it's thing? I saw where a couple of people let it rise on the dough setting and then punch it down but I want to just throw and go. Maybe I'm asking for too much out of my machine. Thanks in advance.

Reviews

  1. This is a great recipe! The only things I did different was up the amount of milk, honey, and yeast. I ended up using 1-1/2 cups of milk, about 2 tblsp of clover honey, and somewhere around 2 tsp of yeast. Oh! And I used 1/2 tblsp of unsalted butter and 1 tblsp of shortening (since I did not have butterflavored shortening on hand). This is an absolute great recipe to keep though! Thanks for sharing it!

  2. I made this in my bread machine. I put the (whole) milk, honey and sugar in first with the yeast and let it set for about 10 minutes. Then I added my flour and butter. I always use wheat bran in bread. I like the texture. I added way more honey (probably triple) and about 3 Tbs of raw organic sugar. My daughter loves it and I love the texture. Best bread yet! I have a few modifications to make next time as it rose too much and the top collapsed a bit but nonetheless yummy bread.

  3. WOW. I love the texture and taste. The softness and density was just right and sliced beautifully without falling apart. The flavor was great...some breads just don't seem to have much flavor. Followed the recipe except for I used 1 c. of white bread flour and 2 c. AP flour. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I will make it often.

  4. FINALLY! I have finally found the perfect white bread recipe. I can't believe how soft & moist my bread came out with a light flaky crust. Thank you (note: the only tweak I made was changed to 3 Tbsp of honey after reading some of the reviews. It didn't make the bread sweet....just absolutely perfect)

  5. I've made this bread twice ... and plan on making it many more times.

Tweaks

  1. My son recently bought me a bread machine and this is the first recipe that I have tried and it seemed to turn out just fine for my first attempt at making bread in it. I used all purpose flour instead of bread flour, even though the directions for my bread machine didn't recommend using all-purpose flour, it turn out great. I wonder if adding more honey would change the reliability of this recipe, because I think that I would have like it better if it had been a little sweeter. My grandmother and aunt were expert bread makers who made bread from scratch daily in their younger years and I remember that their bread was much sweeter. My kids liked it so I'll probably use this recipe again. Next time I'll try using bread flour.
