We've been making these in my family for over 40 years, sans food coloring for throughout-the-year enjoyment! We use Frosted Flakes instead of cornflakes and because I used to pick them off and throw them away, red sugar instead of red hots. I don't really agree with the other reviewer that they taste like Rice Krispie Treats (never really liked those), but the recipe is similar of course. Lastly, you could easily use 5 cups of flakes, which I think tastes better (not so rich), but you won't get the pretty green coverage.
