Grandma's Sugar Cookies

"Wow! These are just like Grandma's cookies, this really is one classic recipe you should at least try!"

• Yields: 50-100 cookies

ingredients

• 1 lb butter or 1 lb margarine
• 2 cups sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 4 cups all-purpose flour, divided
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1⁄8 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

directions

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Lightly grease cookie sheet.
3. (Treadwell prefers to spray with commercial nonstick spray.) Cream butter and sugar well.
4. Add eggs and vanilla.
5. Add 2 cups flour, then soda, salt and cream of tartar.
6. Add remaining 2 cups flour.
7. Drop generous tablespoons of dough onto cookie sheet.
8. Butter bottom of flat-bottomed glass.
9. Dip glass bottom into sugar; flatten cookie dough.
10. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until very lightly brown.
