  1. This is really great. Don't worry if you're not a big sauerkraut fan because the sauce cuts the pucker power of the kraut. The sweet & spicy sauce is great with the kraut and the meatballs.

  2. Fantastic dish goes great over egg noodles

  3. I always get asked for this recipe--usually from someone who hates sauerkraut--cracks me up--I have also had success freezing the sauce and thrown in a crockpot with premade meatballs from Sam's Club for a quick & easy throw together for company--Thank You Cricket

  4. Good, simple family meal. I took Bergy's suggestion and added a tablespoon of Dijon and reduced the water to 3/4 cup. My son thought the kraut was cabbage, which was good because he doesn't like sauerkraut.

  5. I cut the recipe back to two servings - worked well. The oven time was also cut back to 1 1/2 hours. I loved the mixture of flavors but would add a tbsp or so of Dijon mustard and cut back on the water. This is the perfect recipe for Sauerkraut haters - it has a nice tang and really doesn't taste of Kraut at all. I will make this again.

(As many of you know Silent Cricket passed away on Feb. 29. Since she loved Recipezaar so much and so many on Recipezaar have shown their love for her, and have enjoyed her recipes, her personal information will remain here indefinitely just as she wrote it. Her lines at the end of this section sound somewhat prophetic as the last chapter of her earthly existence has been written.) Well, the time has come for me to change my users' name. After being, "OzCoMartha" because of having lived for three years in Australia and then moving to Colorado, I have decided to "turn over a new leaf." I chose this name because many moons ago I used to be able to "chirp" like a cricket and the "silent" refers to the present time when I'm taking a break...But, perhaps after a season, however long I decide that needs to be, I may be back and then I will fill in more details about myself...
