Homemade Granola

"My husband found this recipe in a mountain bike magazine that we changed just a bit. This granola is really easy to make and very good. You can use oats, but I like to use multi-grain hot cereal that includes oats, barley, rye, and wheat. Enjoy!"

directions

  • Preheat oven to 360 degrees.
  • Toast nuts in pan over stove until lightly brown.
  • Mix the fruit juice, honey, maple syrup, oil, vanilla, and spices in a large bowl. It's okay to add more honey, maple syrup, cinnamon, or spices - just depends how you like your granola to taste.
  • Add oats and nuts into honey mixture and combine together.
  • Spread mixture on a baking sheet and bake 30 minutes until golden. Stir occasionally. Use your best judgement when baking. I like mine a little crunchy, so sometimes I bake it 40 minutes.
  • Leave on pan to cool.
  • If you are using dried fruit stir in once completely cooled.
  • Store granola in container with lid (not in refrigerator). It will last about a week or a little longer. Add granola to vanilla yogurt, or with milk, or eat plain.

  1. BOY!! This taste great and its so easy to make. The chef got back to me right away when I had a question. I did add some walnut pieces and dried cranrasians infused with blueberry juice. The first two who tried it said "this is much better than store bought" I thank the chef for posting this recipe, Its wonderful.

  2. I usually have several granolas on hand to give some variety not only for breakfast choices, but also just for snacking during the day, & this one will certainly be enjoyed from now on ~ The nuts & seeds & multi-grain cereal make a great combination, & when dried berries are included . . . very, very satisfying! Thanks for sharing your recipe! [Made & reviewed for one of my adopted chefs in the current Pick A Chef event]

I live in Santa Cruz, California and I really love to bake. Over the last few years, I've focused my cooking and baking on using organic ingredients, less sugar, and whole wheat grains. What a fun transformation! I am also having a lot of fun turning my recipes into true "vegan" options, which often means healthier baking and cooking! I am not vegan, but I love offering the option. Give my recipes a try and let me know what you think. Thanks!
