Extra Special Steamed Green Beans

"I learned this seasoning trick from a restaurant chef. It really improves the flavor but keeps the green beans healthier than adding a lot of butter to them. I have never liked green beans but I love them prepared this way. My kids do too!"

  • Wash and snap the green beans. Place in a steamer basket and steam for about 18 minutes or until desired tenderness.
  • Place beans in serving bowl and drizzle with olive oil, stirring to coat. Sprinkle half the brown sugar on, toss to coat. Sprinkle on remaining brown sugar and pepper, tossing again.

  1. These were the best green beans ever. Even my husband was not reaching for the Parmesan cheese to coat them with. I did cut the cook time down by simmering them in 1 inch of boiling water for 6 mins for crisp tender.
     
  2. Wow, these green beans really are special! I cook them in my electric steamer, then proceed with the rest of the recipe, and they turn out perfect every time. I love to use the french green beans I buy in bulk at Costco. Just love this recipe... thanks!

  4. I just couldn't wait till the green beans were ripe enough to pick, so substituted with yellow. I also sprinkled with cracked red peppercorns. So fast and easy, not to mention soooo tasty.
