ingredients
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons dried basil
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon white pepper (or 2 use tablespoons black pepper)
- 3 teaspoons cayenne pepper
- 5 tablespoons paprika
- 4 -5 tablespoons seasoning salt (I use Hy's seasoned salt for this but Lawry's is good also!)
directions
- Mix all ingredients in a glass jar.
- Store in the refrigerator to keep the spices fresh.
- Shake the jar before using.

Why would you use a seasoned salt in a recipe for homemade seasoning? Isn't it kind of redundant? Can't I just use a little of my favorite salt instead (definitely not anywhere NEAR what this recipe calls for)? Oh, and I'd use WAAAYY less oregano! Like maybe two TEASPOONS. There IS such a thing as too much when it comes to oregano. If I do these things, this sounds like my family's recipe. I have been using it all my life as I'm from New Orleans.

Great Cajun seasoning recipe! For those who want to make less here is a conversion: Creole or Cajun seasoning small batch recipe using teaspoons (1/6 of full recipe) Yields: 10 to 11 teaspoons 1 teaspoon onion powder 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon dried basil 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon white pepper 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 2 1/2 teaspoons paprika 2 - 2 1/2 teaspoons seasoning salt

I have made this probably half a dozen times now so I decided it's time to review it. It's spicier than the store bought stuff so if you aren't a fan of super spicy then you may want to cut back on the cayenne a bit. I always cut the recipe in half because I'm the only one using it and I've also never used the white pepper because I never have any on hand. I just use double the amount of black pepper like the recipe suggests. My favorite way to use this is on popcorn. I pop my popcorn in the microwave, drizzle it with butter and add a few good shakes of this.

Wow...this was the best in a cajun chicken pasta.I loved the flavor while not feeling like my mouth was on fire...hubby agreed.I halved it so as not to make too much.I only had 1-TBSP of season salt so I used what I had & added 1-TBSP of regular salt to compensate.I also added 1-TBSP of both cumin & sugar...for balance.Very tasty stuff!Kittencal My Dear,I keep finding that I am using more of your recipes then anything else!Thanks so much for all your postings!

I can definitely tell this is a "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner" recipe, but my spouse has some serious cardiac/pulmonary issues with sodium, so I'm going to make it w/o salt at all and just use a small amount outside the box. IMHO, I'm finding too many recipes with WAY too much salt, Tony C's being the most egregious. Just don't care for how salt overwhelms everything when too much of it is used "just because you can."

Just what I needed! I was looking for a Cajun seasoning mix to use when making recipe #96550 as well as a recipe for Crispy Cornmeal Shrimp that I wanted to try. I had to substitute black pepper for the white pepper, but other than that I had everything on hand. I did omit the seasoning salt in an effort to cut down on sodium. Thanks so much for posting, I know I'll find many more uses for this seasoning in the future!!!!
