  • Boil potatoes in 3 c water in medium pan until soft, nearly mushy.
  • Drain in colander.
  • Put potatoes and remaining ingredients in a large bowl.
  • Using electric mixer, beat on high until fluffy and smooth.
  • Beat longer about 3 minutes after you stop seeing lumps to make them light and fluffy.
  • Add more salt to taste.

  1. Thank you so much for this recipe. I have made mashed potatoes for years guessing at the amount of potatoes, milk and butter, and then wondered if they would turn out okay. This time, I made my potatoes with confidence. I did did cut down on the butter somewhat, but otherwise used the amount of milk to potatoes. Delicious!

  3. WOW! My grandmother use to make whipped potatoes all the time when I was a child. I tried re-creating them with just butter and milk but they never worked out for me. Your recipe with the sour cream added was just right! I will be making these again and again! Thanks for posting!

  5. This is really the first mashed potato recipe and you can't beat it! There are tons of recipes with other creams, herbs and seasonings but they "new" and personally men love this taste.
