ingredients
- 1 lb butter
- 1 (2 lb) bag light brown sugar
- 1 (16 ounce) bottle light corn syrup
- 2 (14 ounce) cans sweetened condensed milk
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
directions
- Melt butter in a large, heavy saucepan (dutch oven).
- Add brown sugar and salt.
- Stir in corn syrup, mixing well.
- Gradually add milk, stirring constantly. Cook and stir over medium heat until firm ball stage - 245 degrees on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla.
- Pour into a well-buttered jelly roll pan. Cool 4-5 hours.
- Remove from pan, cut and wrap. Makes about 5 lbs.

Right on the money. Time consuming, yes. They do taste awesome though. If you have some time and you want to please some caramel lovers in your life, definitely give it a try. These are just absolutely delicious. I used gold wrappers from a craft store, and the recipe actually made about 150 wrapped caramels. They will look great in my Christmas candy and cookie gifts.
